It’s a system of specialized algorithms for the automatic recognition of skin cancer for epiluminescence microscopy (ELM) images with the potential to be used in doctor’s offices and other health care units for screening for early melanoma. Thanks to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (Deep Learning) algorithms, it recognizes melanocytic nevi on the basis of photos taken with a videodermoscope. System supports the doctor in image analysis, accelerates access to professional early diagnosis and eliminates the risk of incorrect image recognition by focusing on the methods of processing, analyzing and classifying images of skin melanocytic nevi with the use of 4 image assessment strategies.
The innovative nature of ai4skin is based on the fact that the newly developed algorithms, organized in the form of a multistrategic system facilitate the diagnosis of skin nevus images, performed by doctors, usually with the use of systematized procedures, known in the literature as melanocytic algorithms/strategies.
ai4skin is a specialized tool to support the analysis of images of melanocytic nevi of the skin of the multimodal type (ELM) and a repository containing images of melanocytic nevi of various types, together with dermatological descriptions.

Melanoma is a malignant neoplasm originating from the neuroectodermal melanin-producing cells – melanocytes
In recent years, there has been a dynamic increase in the incidence of this cancer, which, if detected at an early stage, gives the possibility of full recovery.
The undisputed risk factor of the disease is excessive exposure to UV, light skin phototype, sunburn, especially in childhood, but also family atypical moles.
Excessive exposure to UVR leads to skin burns and pigmentation, as well as to long-term effects: accelerated skin aging, the development of precancerous and neoplastic lesions, and the triggering of specific immunosuppression.
UVB rays make up about 5% of all ultraviolet rays, but their biological effects are more pronounced than those of UVA.
The highest intensity of UVB is in the afternoon hours, while the intensity of UVA remains constant throughout the day.
